Brand Spotlight - Volcano Coffee Works: Brewing with Purpose
Volcano Coffee Works are building a fairer, more sustainable coffee world, and now you can enjoy their beans zero-waste through us in reusable packaging that keeps both flavour and the planet in mind.

If ever there were a coffee company built around a simple but powerful idea, it's Volcano Coffee Works. Founded in 2010 by Kurt Stewart, they started out with a vintage Italian cart in South London. Today they've grown into a full roastery, café and team of around 45 people, all driven by a mission to make coffee that’s better tasting, kinder to the earth, and fairer to the people who grow it.

Volcano combines high standards with heart. They roast in small batches and pay farmers well above fair-trade rates. They’re also a certified B Corporation, continuously raising the bar for social and environmental performance. In 2025 they scored 93.1, placing them in the top 30% of B Corps globally. Their ethos is summed up in their motto: “everyone deserves a fair shot.”
And crucially, Volcano champions a “coffee without the snobbery” ethos. They believe speciality coffee shouldn’t feel exclusive or intimidating, but welcoming. Their approach is flavour-first and people-friendly, helping everyone, from seasoned coffee drinkers to those just starting out, discover a cup they’ll love without the jargon.
Spend 5 minutes with the team in their Brixton HQ and you'll realise immediately that they mean this. Outstanding coffee is for everyone.

The Five Coffees We’re Excited to Carry
Sombra
“Sombra” means “shade” in Portuguese, and this single-origin Brazilian espresso is tied to Volcano’s agroforestry initiative at Fazenda Mio. Each bag helps fund reforesting land with shade trees, improving biodiversity, water protection, and soil health. On the palate, expect notes of plum, dark chocolate, hazelnut, and a velvety toffee in milk when paired with milk.
The Mount Blend
This is Volcano’s flagship espresso, and the blend that “sums up what Volcano is about.” Sourced from farmers in Brazil, El Salvador and Colombia, it delivers a smooth, approachable profile of milk chocolate, red grapes and caramel. It has been a staple for over a decade, praised for its consistency and versatility with or without milk.
The Brixton
This espresso blend nods to Volcano’s roots in South London and offers a darker, more intense profile. The Brixton carries tasting notes of cacao, orange rind and liquorice, bold, urban, and full of character.
Rise Up Blend
Rise Up blends coffee from Brazil with beans from Rebuild Women’s Hope, a female-led cooperative on Idjwi Island in the DRC. This cooperative supports over 15,000 women through community initiatives in education, health, and entrepreneurship. The coffee itself offers milk chocolate, orange rind and raspberry candy notes, with muted acidity and a creamy texture that shines as espresso or with milk.
Decaf Coffee
Volcano uses a natural decaffeination process (the sugar-cane method), designed to preserve flavour while removing caffeine. Their decaf still carries character and isn’t a bland afterthought. It is built with the same care as their caffeinated line. Expect tasting notes across maple syrup, green grape and dark chocolate.
